World Birding Center
Quinta Mazatlan

Welcome
A 1930’s country estate in the heart of McAllen, Quinta Mazatlan is an historic Spanish Revival adobe hacienda surrounded by lush tropical landscaping and native woodland. A unique conference and events center, close to airports and hotels, Quinta Mazatlan is also an urban oasis, where quiet trails wind through more than 15 acres of birding habitat.

The Land
Formal tropical gardens surround the 10,000 square-foot mansion, and are enriched with native plants as living demonstrations of what any backyard birder can achieve. Outlying acres of wild Tamaulipan thorn forest have been enhanced with water and bird feeding stations to make them even more attractive to wildlife.

The Birds
Quinta Mazatlan attracts many of the favorite “Valley specialties” found no place else in the country. Black-bellied Whistling Ducks nest in the patio palms, while Green Jays, Plain Chachalacas, Buff-bellied Hummingbirds, and Olive Sparrows inhabit the grounds.

Learn & Discover
Quinta Mazatlan (the name means “country estate” in Spanish) has programs for all intersts from Natural History Tours to Native Plant Walks. Visitors can enrich their skills by signing up for programs to “Attract Birds to Backyards”. Quinta Mazatlan serves as an example for backyard restoration...enhancing and connectin backyards for wildlife and people.
