Weekend Hawk Identification Workshop with Bill Clark
When: Friday, September 10, 2004 (starts at 7pm)
through Sunday, September 12, 2004
What: Join world renowned bird identification expert Bill Clark for an unforgettable fall migration weekend. Experience the hospitality of the Rio Grande Valley, learn how to identify the hawks, falcons and kites of south Texas - and, if we’re lucky, see a few Mexican rarities.
Bill Clark has worked with birds of prey for decades, including more than 30 years capturing and banding migrating raptors at Cape May, New Jersey. He’s written several raptor field guides including Hawks of North America (the Peterson Field Guide) and Photographic Guide to North American Raptors. He has just started writing a new raptor field guide for Mexico and Central America.
Workshop will include:
- 3 lecture sessions covering
- Introduction (Field marks, shape, measurements, terminology, feathers, molt)
- Review of field ID
- Kites
- Accipiters
- Buteos
- Caracara
- Aplomado Falcon
- Mexican rarities
- Albinism and other unusual plumages
- Field trips on Saturday and Sunday
